Green Gram - The Popular Healthy Sprout

During my younger days, my mother used to feed me dishes which had green gram as a major ingredient. She used to say that eating these food kept one healthy and resistant to common ailments. I would have appreciated what she told, much better, if I was aware of the health giving qualities of this wonderful pulse which formed an essential ingredient in all her dishes. Green gram arose in North-eastern India and there is a long history of its use throughout Asia. Its popularity stems not just from its medicinal and nutritional properties, but also from its adaptability to drought conditions and inferior soils. The nitrogen fixing bacteria in the plant's root help replenish the nitrogen content of the soil, which makes it a valuable inter-crop in rice and sugar cane cultivation. Nutritional value of Green Gram (Per 100 grams) Energy : 30 calories Protein : 3 grams Carbohydrate : 6 grams Dietary Fiber : 2 grams Health benefits Unlike other pulses, green gra

Make working from home a happy and fulfilling experience

You always wanted to start your own business and become self-reliant. Most probably, you have decided to use that extra room in your home as office space. This decision was easily made because it makes economic sense to keep a tight rein on the fixed costs. You brought an office desk, an executive chair, a computer, file cabinets and other paraphernalia to give the space a true office look. You got an additional phone line installed so that you and your potential clients don't have to compete with "junior" for the telephone line. You are all set for business - atleast that is what you thought, until the door bell rings on a sunday morning at 9.00 AM and a prospective client is waiting for you. You like to sleep in on sunday morning; you are not dressed, family members are lolling about the place in their night-clothes with coffee and the sunday newspaper spread all over the place. The house is far from tidy... you are just not ready for the world. It is very embarrassi

10 Steps to everlasting happiness

Social Psychologist David.G.Myers of Hope College Michigan offers this 10 step route to happiness. 1) Realise that enduring happiness doesn't come from success . Wealth is like health, its absence breeds misery, but having it doesn't guarantee happiness. 2) Take control of your time . It helps to set goals and break them into daily aims. We under estimate how much we can accomplish in a year, one day at a time. 3) Act happy. Put on a happy face. Talk as if you feel optimistic and outgoing. Going through the motions can trigger the emotions. If you scowl, the whole world seem to scowl back. 4) Seek work and leisure that engage your skills . Happy people are absorbed in tasks that challenge them without overwhelming them. Expensive forms of leisure often provide less flow than gardening, socialising or craftwork. 5) Join the 'movement' movement. An avalanche of research reveals that the aerobic exercise not only promotes health and energy; it also is an

Internet Scam begins to cash in on the tsunami

A new breed of email scams is exploiting the generosity of people who have rushed online to donate money to the relief effort, an internet watchdog SurfControl has warned. The first of the tsunami cons have already hit inboxes around the world. One is a modification of the classic Nigerian scam letter, but another is a more sophisticated operation, in which potential donors recieve an email luring them into making donations to a fake website. People are urged to use official channels and not to respond to emails asking them to donate money.Just as your bank would never email you asking for your account details, the official tsunami relief NGOs (Non-Governmental Organisations) are not going to email you asking for money. If in doubt, telephone the concerned office directly and check. The first for "brand-spoofing", tsunami scam was detected in the U.S. When users open a link to a website where they can supposedly make donations, they unwittingly download a spyware programme, wh

12 Tips for finding a new job

If you work for someone else, then how long your job lasts is up to the people you work for, and not just you. Your job can end at any time, so you must be prepared to go job hunting again at the drop of a hat. No one owes you a job. You have to go out and hunt for it. And to be successful, you have to be willing to change tactics. If you try something and it doesn't produce results, move on to another strategy. Employment experts define job hunting insanity as " when something doesn't work, you respond by doing more of it ." The cure for this kind of insanity is obvious: if you answer ads in the newspapers, if you reply to job postings and send your resume everywhere, and nothing works, don't just do more of it. Change your tactics. Here are 12 effective strategies for finding a job. 1) Talk to successful job-hunters Ide
